We are seeking a creative, organised and audience-focused Social Media Officer to join our Mayoral Office. Reporting to the Strategic Content and Digital Lead Officer, you will play a key role in delivering engaging digital communications that promote the Mayor's priorities, initiatives and achievements, helping to increase awareness, participation and public confidence in the work of the Combined Authority.

About the Role

As Social Media Officer, you will support the planning and delivery of digital communications across a range of social media and online channels.

Working collaboratively with colleagues across communications, engagement, policy and corporate services, you will help ensure content is engaging, accessible, audience-focused and aligned with the Combined Authority's strategic priorities.

You will create and publish digital content, support campaigns and events, monitor audience engagement and use performance insights to continually improve digital communications. You will also help maintain brand consistency while supporting public engagement activities and the Mayor's online presence.

You will –

  • Manage the Mayor's social media channels, creating, scheduling and publishing engaging content across digital platforms
  • Produce engaging written, visual and multimedia content for social media, websites, campaigns and promotional activity
  • Support the delivery of digital communications and marketing campaigns promoting Mayoral priorities, initiatives and events
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners to gather content and deliver effective digital communications
  • Support digital engagement activities, including live event coverage and online audience interaction where appropriate
  • Ensure all content reflects the Combined Authority's brand, messaging and communications standards
  • Monitor channel performance using analytics and audience insight, producing reports and identifying opportunities for improvement
  • Monitor online conversations and public sentiment, escalating reputational or politically sensitive issues through appropriate channels
  • Ensure digital communications comply with accessibility requirements, data protection legislation and public sector communications guidance

About You

We are looking for a proactive and creative digital communications professional with experience managing social media channels and creating engaging content that connects with audiences.

You will be an excellent communicator with strong organisational skills, able to manage multiple priorities while working collaboratively with colleagues and partners.

You will bring –

  • Experience working in communications, digital engagement, marketing or content development
  • Experience creating and managing content across a variety of social media platforms
  • Experience supporting digital communications or marketing campaigns
  • Strong copywriting skills and experience producing engaging written, visual and multimedia content
  • Experience using social media management and analytics tools to monitor performance
  • A good understanding of branding principles and maintaining brand consistency
  • Experience working collaboratively with a range of stakeholders and contributors
  • Knowledge of social media management, digital communications and audience engagement principles
