How does the mayoral election work?
The Combined Authority Mayoral election will take place on Thursday 1 May 2025. Voters will choose from 6 declared candidates, with the winner of the election being the candidate who receives the greatest number of votes. The election is being conducted via a first past the post system, which is the same way that winners are determined during General and Local elections.
When do voters go to the polls?
Voters go to the polls on Thursday 1 May 2025. Voters who have decided to vote in person will attend their local polling station on that day between 7am and 10pm. They will need to have suitable photo ID. Registered voters have also had the option to vote by post or to appoint a proxy to vote on their behalf.
When will we know who has won?
The result of the Combined Authority Mayoral election will be announced following the counting of votes at East Riding Leisure Haltemprice in Anlaby and Hull Guildhall on Friday 2 May 2025.
When does the winner of the election officially become mayor?
The mayor officially starts in office on Tuesday 6 May 2025, following the early May bank holiday weekend. The first mayor-chaired meeting of the Hull and East Yorkshire Combined Authority is due to take place on Wednesday 28 May.
