Good health is at the heart of everything we do. We need to feel well to work, study, care for our families, and take part in our communities. When people struggle with their health, it impacts all parts of their life.
In Hull and East Yorkshire, too many people are being held back. Around 71,800 residents are out of work, and more people here than the national average say long-term sickness is stopping them from finding work and staying in it.
That’s why we’re launching our £11.7 million Connect to Work programme to help 3,400 residents move into good, secure jobs. It gives people the support they need to overcome health barriers to work, and fits with the jobs we have here in Hull and East Yorkshire.
Improving health isn’t something we can do alone, which is why I'm working with the NHS, local councils, employers and community groups.
My aim is to build a stronger, healthier and more prosperous region that's ready for the future.
