A busy third week for Luke, with meetings about skills, training, investment and transport.
We kicked off the week announcing the next steps in our journey to take control of the £16m adult skills budget for the area. This means we can ensure sure local people get the training and skills that they and businesses really need for the jobs of the future.
Since then, I’ve been in Leeds for the launch of 'The Great North' with other Mayors, and had an intense but very important 2 days at UK-REiiF. It’s a massive event for national and international investors, multi-national businesses and developers where we were getting out and about making the case for investing and growing their presence in Hull and East Yorkshire.
After a stop-off yesterday with East Yorkshire Buses and Stagecoach, visiting their operations in the lead-up to taking on transport powers and funding locally, the week ended with national meetings chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister, and then the Prime Minister!
There’s been no let-up, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. At the same time, we need to make progress with long-term planning too and I’ll be devoting plenty of time and energy to that next week.
Thanks for taking the time to read what I’ve been up to.
