Leaders call for action and transparency from Yorkshire Water.

Yorkshire metro mayors met with Yorkshire Water Chair, Vanda Murray OBE, to address concerns over the company’s performance.

The meeting focused on the company’s accountability to customers and communities, as well as the need to rebuild public trust around issues like pollution and increasing bills.

Ms Murray was asked to set out how Yorkshire Water plan to demonstrate real progress over the next year, and concerns were raised about the public's confidence in the company.

Leaders called for a stronger, more transparent approach to communication, and for firm commitments to measurable change to ensure that the discussions would lead to real action.

Luke Campbell MBE, Mayor of Hull and East Yorkshire, said:

"Yorkshire Water need to rebuild trust with communities across our region who feel let down.

"Decisive action is required to address people's concerns with infrastructure, pollution and bill increases. They owe it to every resident to be transparent, accountable and responsive.

"I welcome the company's commitment to improve services. We will continue to hold Yorkshire Water to account until we see real change."

Following the meeting, which was also attended by representatives of the Yorkshire Leaders Board, Ms Murray wrote to the mayors and leaders to thank them for the constructive discussion.

In the letter, assurances were also given that the company is committed to improving outcomes, rebuilding trust, and working in partnership with communities on the priorities that matter most to them.

The Yorkshire leaders agreed to establish stronger scrutiny of Yorkshire Water’s performance and communications, and a follow-up meeting has been scheduled to review progress.
