Support for small businesses to hire apprentices and access local talent pipelines.

Small businesses across Hull and East Yorkshire are being given a fresh opportunity to grow their teams, develop new talent and future-proof their workforce.

The dedicated event has been designed to support small businesses in recruiting apprentices, trainees, and young talent, and is hosted by the Hull and East Yorkshire Combined Authority’s Growth Hub in partnership with the Hull & Humber Chamber of Commerce’s Local Skills Improvement Plan team.

Small businesses regularly face a number of barriers when recruiting an apprentice, including financial and operational challenges. This often results in a reluctance to explore the opportunity, which the Growth Hub want to change.

Taking place as part of Humber Business Week 2026, this event aims to give businesses the clarity, confidence and connections they need to recruit successfully.

Attendees will have the opportunity to discover how apprenticeships and placements can work for their business, as well as explore the different routes to local talent.

Luke Campbell MBE, Mayor of Hull and East Yorkshire, said:

“This session has been built with small businesses in mind. We want owners, leaders and managers in Hull and East Yorkshire to have the confidence to invest in the next generation.”

Over a dozen training providers and support organisations will be in attendance as part of the event’s exhibitor marketplace, including the Department for Work and Pensions, Skills Bootcamps, the University of Hull, and a number of the region’s colleges and training providers.

With the skills landscape evolving rapidly, the event will also break down the latest policy changes and funding opportunities to help businesses understand what support is available and how they can access it.

Beyond the presentations, the event offers the chance to connect with local experts, have real conversations and find tailored support that fits their needs.

Future Talent and Recruitment for Small Businesses will take place on Monday 1 June, 10am-1pm, at the MKM Stadium in Hull.

People who wish to attend are encouraged to register on Eventbrite.
