The Local Innovation Partnership Fund (LIPF) is a place-based funding pot of £500m from the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) public body. The fund is designed to accelerate regional economic growth by supporting portfolios of innovation-led projects aligned to local strengths and strategic priorities. It brings together industry, academia and public sector partners in a ‘triple-helix’ model to deliver coordinated projects across key sectors. The goals of the LIPF are to -
- Grow high-potential innovation clusters across the UK
- Build capacity, capability and collaboration across UK innovation ecosystems
- Support adoption, diffusion, and commercialisation of new technologies
- Strengthen local partnerships for place-based innovation
UKRI has asked partners from across Teesside and the Humber to submit a joint application as part of a £30m opportunity. This combines the complementary strengths of the two regions with a portfolio of projects in -
- hydrogen
- offshore wind
- waste to X
- sustainable aviation fuel
- carbon capture utilisation and storage
- cluster development
Applications to join the Humber-Teesside LIPF Portfolio
HEYCA, working with our partners from across the wider region, are opening an application process for industry to propose activities to be delivered within the portfolio. Successful proposals will be invited to work with our triple-helix partnership to fully develop the portfolio and, if approved by UKRI, will be eligible to receive grant funding towards the delivery of their activities.
Local industry partners from across the Humber and Tees Valley are invited to present their activity proposals that -
- Can be delivered by March 2031
- Leverage industrial investment of at least £1 million
- Deliver innovation and/or research and development activity
- Focus on clean energy and industrial decarbonisation
Collaboration Forms should be submitted to our partners Teesside University at LIPF@tees.ac.uk with the email title “LIPF Application Submission”. The deadline for submitting the Collaboration Form is 12noon Monday 27 July.
While we are currently prioritising larger proposals, we encourage businesses with smaller proposals to get in touch to identify opportunities. A process for formally proposing smaller activities will be agreed and outlined in the coming weeks.
